Josefine Göhmann

Josefine Göhmann was born in Hanover and received her vocal training as a young soloist in the renowned Mädchenchor Hannover and at the Hanover University of Music with Carol Richardson. This was followed by master classes with Thomas Quasthoff and Juliane Banse as well as the opera studio of the Opéra National de Lyon and the Accademia del Belcanto Rodolfo Celetti Martina Franca.

Josefine Göhmann is adept across epochs and conceives performative, interdisciplinary song recitals such as her successful program "réBelles!" and recently also music theater productions: "The Blaubart Project" (AT) for the Neuköllner Oper Berlin. Her explorative conceptual discourse focuses on womanhood.

Engagements have taken her to the Hanover State Opera, Festwochen Herrenhausen, Theater Aachen, Sommerliche Musiktage Hitzacker, Heidelberger Frühling, Opéra National de Lyon, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées Paris, Opéra Royal du Château de Versailles, Festival Printemps des Arts de Monte-Carlo, Opéra de Vichy, Semperoper Dresden, Internationale Maifestspiele Staatstheater Wiesbaden and the Théâtre Mohammed V. Rabat. The title role in "L'incoronazione di Poppea" in Klaus Michael Grüber's production for the "Mémoires" festival at the Opéra National de Lyon deserves special mention.

Courageous rebel ... she suffers, squirms, breathes, begs (...), revealing her amazingly diverse vocal palette. If only young musicians had the same courage to open their programmes, concerts and albums like this more often!

Programmes

"réBelles! potraits lyriques. Frauenbilder 1900-2020" - is a program by Josefine Göhmann in which she presents female archetypes - Vierge, Sirène, Héroïne, Ophélie - like exhibition rooms of a museum in songs instead of paintings; allowing visual art to resonate and the question of female self-determination "today" after around 100 years of the women's rights movement.

Co-production Deutschlandfunk and Solo Musica München/Naxos-Edel.

"Maria. Ein Leben" - Marienlieder by Hugo Wolf, Franz Schubert and Paul Hindemith - is Josefine Göhmann's latest collaboration with DeutschlandRadio.

This program celebrates 100 years of "Das Marienleben" (1922/23) by Paul Hindemith on texts by Rainer Maria Rilke. - The internationally acclaimed Lied pianist Joseph Middleton accompanies her on the piano.

Broadcast 25.12.2023, 20.05-23.00h, Musik-Panorama, DLF/Deutschlandfunk.

Following the great success of "réBelles!" - also as a performative song recital - Josefine Göhmann has been invited by the Neuköllner Oper to develop her first piece based on her own idea and concept for the 2023/24 season:

"The Bluebeard Project" (AT)

In three chapters - Skin, Blood, Ashes - role models/relationship dynamics between men and women are artistically discussed on the basis of the Bartok opera "Bluebeard's Castle"; giving voice and forum to female creations in poetry and music versus keeping them mute and dead.

Josefine Göhmann has been a scholarship holder of the Concerto21 Foundation since September 2023. Among other things, the foundation supports her in her work on the program trilogy "MARBLE - PIROUTCHA - MADELEINE" as a tribute to her roots, her parents, her youth and origins.
